Pointing to a plate she hasn't used in a long time: "Mama, I remember that plate, when I was a Chinese girl!"
phebe: "Mama, what's this?"
me: "Oh, it's Lilah's new spray for writing on the snow."
phebe: "Wow! That's cool!"
"Mama, I so love the Lord."
"I want to see on the computer where God lives, you show me?"
Baba was wearing his pajamas one day: "Baba, why don't you have your ready clothes on?"
Out of the blue one day: "Mama, can you buy me a computer for my birthday?"
"Today God is writing in His book, Phebe is a good girl!"
Sitting on the toilet chatting to herself one day: "There's a blizzard, that's not a blizzard, that's my sister!!!! ...for the first time in forever..." (Obviously from the movie, Frozen!)
me: "Do you need to do peepees before your nap?"
phebe: "Yes... I don't want to do peepees in the crib, that would be uncomfortable!"
Lilah was teasing her one day: "It's not true Lilah - it's a lies!"
"Mama, this isn't going to hurt, because I'm a nurse"... as she sticks a triangle magnatile into my ear! "Now lets check your eyes, yep, they're growing up!"
Sitting singing one of her own made up songs one day, during imaginary play... "Hallelujah, Praise the Lord, oh Hallelujah, He is so good to meeeeeeeeeeee!"
me: "We're going to go get Lilah at school."
phebe: "Oh I really want to hug Lilah. She's the best girl. I love her so much."
Talking about the length of her hair one day: "Mama, see? ...my hair is growing up!"
After I put her hair in pigtails one day: "Thanks Mama, for making me beautiful."
lilah: "I want to be a nurse when I grow up."
phebe: "I want to be Dr. Maharajh!" (her heart surgeon!)
Regarding playing with one of Lilah's toys one day: "Lilah's going to freak out and we're going to say nothinggggggg!"
phebe: "Lilah, let's play married."
lilah: "No Phebe, I don't want to kiss you on the lips!"
After her afternoon nap one day, I had just put the tree up and the stocking were hanging on the fireplace... she exclaimed, "Oh look, it's a tree and a pair of socks!"
"My knickers are in my back bum, I need to get them out!"
"I'm excited about being all grown up!"
me: "Oh no! Did you see Phebe? It's snowing AGAIN!"
phebe: "That's because it's winter time, Mama. In summer time it's warm."
My girls love tobogganing! They certainly don't take after me, because to be perfectly honest, when I'm standing at the top of that hill I get some minor heart palpitations. The height, speed and out-of-control feeling is not my thing - you can tell I'm a total adrenaline junkie, can't you?! Ha!
Just as well Baba likes a bit of an adrenaline rush!
One of the comments Phebe made after the first run made me chuckle a little: She got off the sleigh and said: "I don't like the spreading in my face!" - I think she was talking about the snow spray!
Phebe has an excellent imagination. During play, she used to lean on Lilah a lot, she would follow Lilahs lead and basically do what she was told to do! But more recently, Phebe has been doing her own thing, sure she still loves to play alongside Lilah, but it is nice to see her gain a lot of independence during play. Especially when Lilah is at school, Phebe sings and chatters away to herself non-stop. In fact, there are many times in a week Baba and I will look at each other and quietly ask, does she have an "Off" button?! To be honest though, I love my little chatterbox. She is so sweet and funny!
At the supper table last week, Lilah announced that she wants to be a nurse when she gets older. Phebe listened for a second and then declared: "Well, I want to be Dr. Maharajh!" ...and in case you don't recognize the name, Dr. Maharajh was her very own heart surgeon! I'm so thankful her experience was such a positive one. So much so, that now she wants to be just like him!
I took these picture of Phebe playing today... in case you didn't know, heart surgeries are performed around here on a daily basis!
In the swimming pool one day: "Mama, I'm cold... I need a jacket!" - while pointing at the life jackets!
"Mamaaaa! She's trying to cheese me!" - Phebe, talking about Lilah teasing her, she says cheese for tease!
Sometimes she gets chicken and kitchen mixed up!
Looking at a picture of herself one day: "Awww, that's me. She's so cute!"
Driving to the Doctors office one day (Phebe was sick) and an ambulance with siren and flashing lights drove by:
"Oh look Mama, an ambulance, someone is sick! We just go to the doctors in the Volvo!"
While watching a Doc McStuffins show one day: "Is Doc McStuffins at CHEO?" (CHEO is our local Children's Hospital)
"Mama, thank you for the supper. See, I say my manners!"
Looking out the window one evening: "See Mama, it's not dark, it's still on!"
Sometimes when we're walking Lilah up to school she'll say: "I hard to walk Mama!" - In other words, please pick me up!
One Sunday I put on my high heels for Church and she exclaimed:
"Oh Mama, those are your wobbly shoes!" (The word was totally thought up on her own!)
After hurting myself one day: "It's okay mama, don't worry. When we get home you can get a band aid... if you want? And I'll get one too, isn't that a good idea?"
Lying in bed with me one morning, she rubbed my cheek and said: "You're so cute, Mama. I like it on your bed!"
"Mama, I have the hiccups. They're in my mouth!"
"Mama, you're so amazing. And cool."
"Oh Mama, your skirt has spots. I like spots, I SO looove spots!"
She had a slight cold for a couple of days. Sometimes she'd ask me to blow her nose and sometimes when I asked if she needed it blown, she's reply: "No hank you Mama, it's empty!" ( hank = thank!)
lilah: "No Phebe, that's not a band aid!"
phebe: "Well, it's pretending!"
Talking to her stuffed animal one day: "You need to smarten up!"
When she uses please and thank you, she'll look at me and proudly say: "Isn't that good manners?"
Going through the drive thru at McDonalds one day, it was pretty backed up and we were sitting in the queue... Phebe spoke up from the back seat: "Mama, put the window down and call the meal!"
She regularly uses the term, "That's too bad!", when something doesn't turn out the way she wanted it to!
One morning, Baba was leaving for work and I said to him: "Bye Baby". Phebe laughed at me and in a disgusted voice said: "Baba's not a baby!"
In a restaurant one day the waitress called her 'Honey'... she turned to me and said: "I'm not honey!"
In church one morning (I usually bring the ipad so she can do puzzles and colouring), but I forgot it this day, so when she asked me where it was and I told her I forgot it, she held up her hands and exclaimed: "Serious!"
Phebe celebrated her third birthday this past week. (In fact, Phebe's birthday (October 1st) falls on China's National Day!)
She was so excited about her special day. And after days of saying, "Yeahhh, I'm going to be three!" ...we had to keep reminding her on her actual birthday, "Phebe, now you ARE three!"
After walking Lilah to school, we stopped by the dollar store and bought three helium balloons. I snapped a few pictures of her on the front porch, wearing her 'I am 3' t-shirt and holding the three balloons she chose.
After that we started making brownies. Can you tell she enjoyed that experience, licking spoons, testing the M&Ms. she even had her mid-morning snack (mashed banana) sprinkled with M&Ms! Also, she absolutely loves any kind of transportation/automobiles, including, but not limited to: motorbikes, trucks, buses, trains, airplanes, fire trucks, ambulances... so when I saw a neat wooden threading set at Scholars Choice the previous day, I knew it would be perfect for decorating the brownies. She chose her favourite three automobiles to decorate the brownies.
Later that evening, after fish & chips for supper (her choice!), we had warm brownies and ice-cream, and then she got to open her presents. As you can tell, most of the presents were related to her love or transportation! A Hello Kitty airplane and a Calico Critters motorbike. She also asked for an electric toothbrush, just like her big sister Lilahs! How could we say no to that? She was so pleased when she opened it, she immediately turned it on and put it in her mouth... which was probably necessary after all that chocolate brownie, ice-cream and an extra large helping of M&Ms!
Oh it's fun being three!
I got a laugh out of my Phebe tonight, I mean a complete laugh out loud moment!
She and Lilah were out playing on the back deck. Lilah had come inside to tell me about this teeny tiny cut she had on her finger, with the tiniest amount of blood that you might have seen, if you had a microscope. She went back outside to play with Phebe.
About 5 minutes later, Phebe came running in to me...
phebe: (pretty breathless) "Mama! Lilah's finger is bleeding!"
me: "Aww, poor Lilah. Did you kiss it and make it better?"
phebe: (stands for 2 seconds looking at me, then starts laughing) "But Mamaaaaaaaaa, Lilah be bleeding in my (points to her mouth) kissing!"
By golly she says the funniest things!
(talking about her Tigger stuffy one morning)
phebe: "He wake up."
lilah: "No, he didn't!"
phebe: "He woke up?"
I found Lilah's previously worn (Dora the Explorer) bike helmet and excitedly told Phebe that it was hers now. She was absolutely thrilled! Most likely because it has Dora on it! I put it on her, she looked at herself in the mirror and excitedly shouted: "I need a motorbike!"
lilah: "Do you need help Phebe?"
phebe: "No. Don't need help. I do it myself."
*two seconds later*
phebe: "Lilah, I need help."
lilah: "I knew that was going to happen!"
"Mama, I had fun. Mama, I like it holiday."
She thinks Thursday and thirsty mean the same thing. I mentioned it being Thursday one day, Phebe ran and grabbed her water bottle, took a drink and said: "I'm thirsty too!"
me: "We're going to see baby Jack today."
phebe: "Not jacket Mama"
me: "Nope not jacket, his name is Jack."
phebe: "Oh."
"I told you mama, I told you. I'm serious!"
me: "Phebe can you put this away please."
phebe: "In a wee minute!"
She thinks anything more than 1 is 2. Like if there are 5 birds or 15 birds, she shouts out, "Look Mama. There's TWO!" As a side note, she can count to 13, although she skips the number 5.
Waiting for Lilah to be done her piano lessons one day.
phebe: "Mama I'm next. I want piano lessons."
mama: "Well, you're a little bit small Phebe."
phebe: "I'm not small. I'm big girl. I like lessons!"
phebe: "Can I go upstairs too?"
me: "Nope, Lilah needs a wee break."
phebe: "Mamaaaa! Don't be silly! Lilah not breakable!"
During play one day: "Lilah, I have great idea!"
Well, now that big sister is at school, Phebe and I get to hang out together.
To be honest, I was worried about how she would react to Lilah being gone all day, but she seems to really be enjoying having me all to herself. And I'm loving it too. It's nice for her to be able to dominate the play and the conversation, because even though Phebe is pretty independent and strong minded, she does copy and follow along in almost everything Lilah does. She looks up to her big sista!
I have been keeping my little girly busy this week, we've been shopping and doing all those little jobs that I didn't get accomplished during the summer. But we've also been enjoying our time together, hanging at the park, triking around the neighbourhood, playing games... I've even pulled my bike (with child seat) out a few times and we've went and fed the ducks together. I had a good laugh at her funny little sense of humor the day we fed the ducks. After feeding them, she turned to me and in a disgusted tone stated: "Ducks didn't say thank you!" A while later, while we were biking along the path, we saw several squirrels all scampering around with their acorns. Phebe was shouting "Hi Squirrel" to each of them from the bike, after a while she exclaimed again: "Mama, squirrels didn't say Hi!"
My silly sweet girl, she is nothing short of adorable! I love her so.
Phebe celebrated her first Canada Day in 'The County'!
Building sandcastles and swimming at Sandbanks beach, followed by some Canada Day fun in Picton, followed by a yummy meal of stuffed crepes at the Lake on the Mountain Inn, followed by a swim in the hotel pool, followed by a spectacular fireworks show in Belleville... that had both girls jumping for joy in their pajamas! It was a fabulous day from start to finish.
Happy Birthday Canada!
Is it any wonder she said to me: "Mama, I have fun. Mama, I like it holiday!"
