supergirl

Our little supergirl is feeling much better today.
However, the deep chest cough she is still sporting is not so pretty.
And the walk to school, she was out of breath and exhausted by it.
And she was asking to go to bed at 5pm, so not like her.

We're heading to the Dr's on Wednesday morning to get her all checked out.

the sickies have returned!

Fever on Monday.
Perfectly fine on Tuesday.
Throwing up on Wednesday.
Coughing up a storm on Thursday.

Yuck. It's been that kind of a week around here, for the Phebe girl.
I'm so over this and the Winter hasn't even started!

funny monkey!

thanksgiving weekend @ mackenzie king estate thanksgiving weekend @ mackenzie king estate

After hurting myself one day: "It's okay mama, don't worry. When we get home you can get a band aid... if you want? And I'll get one too, isn't that a good idea?"

Lying in bed with me one morning, she rubbed my cheek and said: "You're so cute, Mama. I like it on your bed!"

"Mama, I have the hiccups. They're in my mouth!"

"Mama, you're so amazing. And cool."

"Oh Mama, your skirt has spots. I like spots, I SO looove spots!"

She had a slight cold for a couple of days. Sometimes she'd ask me to blow her nose and sometimes when I asked if she needed it blown, she's reply: "No hank you Mama, it's empty!" ( hank = thank!)

lilah: "No Phebe, that's not a band aid!"
phebe: "Well, it's pretending!"

Talking to her stuffed animal one day: "You need to smarten up!"

When she uses please and thank you, she'll look at me and proudly say: "Isn't that good manners?"

Going through the drive thru at McDonalds one day, it was pretty backed up and we were sitting in the queue... Phebe spoke up from the back seat: "Mama, put the window down and call the meal!"

She regularly uses the term, "That's too bad!", when something doesn't turn out the way she wanted it to!

One morning, Baba was leaving for work and I said to him: "Bye Baby". Phebe laughed at me and in a disgusted voice said: "Baba's not a baby!"

In a restaurant one day the waitress called her 'Honey'... she turned to me and said: "I'm not honey!"

In church one morning (I usually bring the ipad so she can do puzzles and colouring), but I forgot it this day, so when she asked me where it was and I told her I forgot it, she held up her hands and exclaimed: "Serious!"

thanksgiving monday

We started off our Monday with a trip to the Aviation Museum. Lilah was practically on her knees begging us to go. Not sure what or why. But when our big girl gets something into her head, she sticks with it! You should have heard (probably did!) her whoop of joy when we told her we were going!

It was a fun morning. (I'll post those photo's tomorrow!)

Later, as I was getting lunch ready and Phebe was having a well needed nap, Lilah and Baba went out for a bike ride. Lilah really appreciates her one-on-one time with us now. It was special, because they each got to ride their own bikes alongside each other, for the first time, as opposed to Baba taking the third wheel and her pedalling behind.

We're not huge fans of turkey. Can you tell we are not the most traditional people? Turkey once a year is enough for us and it seems that I always decide to try a new recipe when a occasion like this arises. This is a Pioneer Woman recipe, from her book called 'food from my frontier' - page 190! Herb roasted pork tenderloin with warm date and fig chutney, roasted vegetables (parsnips, turnip, heirloom carrots, sweet potato & celery root) and cornmeal cakes. Yum! It turned out delicious. Oh yes, and we don't love pumpkin pie, but we ALL love carrot cake. See, we're so untraditional!

Thanksgiving!

Thank you GOD for blessing me much more than I deserve.

cozy new pajamas!

This year I wanted something special in the way of pajamas for my girls. Something really cozy... and cute!

Have you heard of Next(direct)? It was and still is one of my favourite UK stores, and now they deliver FREE to Canada!

The excitement was high when we opened this mail! There were a couple of hot fuzzy animals running around our house, in their cozy new pajamas! A turquoise stripy rabbit and a pink spotted dinosaur - the PJ's were a HUGE hit! And even though the 'animals' were sweating, they still can't be convinced to take them off!

fuzzy pajamas! fuzzy pajamas! fuzzy pajamas! fuzzy pajamas!

mackenzie king estate

It's almost officially Thanksgiving weekend! It was a PD day for Lilah (off school) and a smashing day outside - sun shining, 22°C. Since it was a long weekend anyway, Monday is a public holiday here, Baba decided to make it an extra long weekend and also took today off, so we could hang out together.

I just love it when we're all together.

We decided to visit the MacKenzie King Estate, which isn't too far from where we live. The estate is nested in the local Gatineau Park and it's a beautiful walk... especially at this time of the year, when the leaves are pure golden. Have I mentioned I love Fall? You better believe it! The girls had so much fun running around: finding sticks, walking the stone walls, gathering pines, finding the 'perfect' leaf, role playing, running with abandon... I don't know what my girls would do without each other, because they are inseparable and love each others company.

We had soup and sandwiches at the little teahouse on the estate and stopped into the famous little ice-cream shop on the drive home. I had their hot chocolate with a big scoop of vanilla ice-cream in it, topped with whipped cream. YUM! I'll definitely be recreating that at home, sometime soon. The ice-cream cooled it down just perfectly!

the butterfly show

There was only one butterfly bigger than her!

butterfly show @ carleton

My girly and I headed over to the Butterfly Show at Carleton University today.

It's an annual event. And it's a very busy annual event. The greenhouse it is held in is pretty small and it seems as each year passes, the event gets busier and busier! We didn't have to wait too long in the lineup, about 20 minutes or so. And the butterflies didn't disappoint, they were beautiful. Sometimes Phebe surprises me... she is so adventurous and yet with little bugs and even butterflies, she can be reluctant to handle them or even be in the vicinity of them! She was persuaded by one of the staff to hold different butterflies, that were on the orange.

You can tell from her face that she wasn't too sure about the whole thing... but by the end, she was definitely warming up to the idea!
