china trip : the great wall, jade factory & ming tombs

Phew, today sure was a busy day! We visited…
: The Great Wall (JuYong Pass)
: Jade Factory
: Ming (Dynasty) Tombs

We started our day off bright and early. We were driven to the JuYong Pass portion of The Great Wall. We brought along the Scootababy hip carrier for our Phebe girl, which she wasn’t so fond of, since our little rascal loves to run around and be very independant! However, she had a lot of patience and her Baba got the fine job of carrying her. She adores her Baba - he can do no wrong in her eyes, so all was well. Lilah and I held hands, because the steps are just so steep, especially on this portion! I couldn’t believe we made it up so far. Lilah was exhilarated with the climb and it was definitely one of those moments she has been thinking and dreaming about for a long time. Climbing The Great Wall of China, in HER China, as she told me.

When we got back down to the bottom of the hill, we bought both our girls medals, engraved with their names and todays date, in honour of climbing this portion of the wall. Our Phebe girl couldn’t have cared less about the medal, she was just happy to be free of the restrictive carrier! But our Lilah, she was so thrilled with her medal and chatted endlessly about the climb and how she couldn’t talk on the way up because she was breathing so hard and that her legs were feeling rather shaky! Believe me, I knew all about that feeling!

After The Great Wall, we heading to the Jade Factory where we had lunch, learned a little about jade and jade carving and we also got to do a little shopping.

Since we were so close, we decided to take a little detour and stopped by the Ming (Dynasty) Tombs. Colin stayed back in the bus with Phebe, since he was hoping she would nap and Lilah and I (Tim and also our guide - Cissy, who we love!) went in for a visit. It was towards the end of the day and we were quite tired, so we kept a steady pace and snapped a few pictures along the way.

We were soon on the road again… back to the hotel. And the girls slept 12 hours that night! Can anyone say "exhausted"?!

  7. Fantastic pictures, as always! We climbed the Great Wall the day before we got Kerry. I think we were able to do the whole section just because we were running on adrenaline and nerves, hehee. Aren't the views from the top amazing!?
