one month home - post placement report

a chilly day!

Today we had our first visit with our Adoption Practitioner, since Phebe became part of our little family. This visit was for our one month (home) Post Placement report that will be filed with the (Ontario) Ministry of Children and Youth Services and the China Center for Children's Welfare and Adoption (CCCWA).

The visit went very well. Our Adoption Practitioner was thrilled with Phebe's progress.

Do you remember me mentioning our extra friendly child that used to wave out of the stroller at anyone and everyone? And be okay with being held by anyone, especially people who spoke Mandarin to her? Well, no more of that for our Phebe girl! I know this probably seems strange to you, when I say it's good that my girly is no longer friendly to everybody and anybody... but it makes my heart soar for joy. Because you know what that means? It means she only wants her family right now and it means that she is recognizing that WE ARE her family.

And do you know what else that means? It means she is bonding and attaching to us in a very healthy way. How wonderful! Adoption is such an incredible journey and moments like this, well, they leave me emotional. Knowing that my daughter has come so far... from the little scared girl who cried when I came close to her and hit me away, to the happy little girl that depends on me, trusts me and loves my affection.

It is a beautiful feeling.

So for the 90 minutes our Adoption Practitioner was in our home, Phebe stayed well away from her, eyeing her up with a little worry on her face... knowing this lady wasn't someone she knew. And the best part, Phebe was playing away with Lilah during the visit, but she came over to me about 8-10 times during that 90 minute period - she wrapped her arms around my legs, she wanted hugs from me and to be held by me - she wanted my reassurance.

Yes, I'm an absolutely thrilled and happy Mama right now.
How I love my little one.

Thank you Lord, for answering prayer.

a chilly day! a chilly day! a chilly day!

  6. So glad that she is making such progress. It is a BIG one, when they refuse all others except their family. It makes your heart soar and sing a melody all at once!!! God is soo good!
